Of Love and Other Drugs

I’m a sucker for cheesy, romantic movies.

Finally had the chance to watch “Love and Other Drugs” this morning (thanks to JP :)) and it was a fun movie to watch. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway were perfect together ❀

I specifically liked one line delivered by Jamie Randall (Jake) in the movie: “You meet a thousand people, then you meet that one person and your life is changed”.

So if you got a time to spare, take time to watch it! πŸ™‚

Dream Hunters

Two years ago I forced my friend Quel to give me just one of her Sandman postcards.Β  Though she didn’t give me a Morpheus or Delirium card, I’m very happy with what she gave me. I haven’t read Dream Hunters (written by Neil Gaiman, Artwork by Yoshitaka Amano) during that time but after receiving a copy for Christmas ’09, I’m more than delighted that I got this card.

I fell in love with this artwork of Yoshitaka Amano that when Neil visited Manila last March 18, 2010 I had the page across this photo autographed πŸ™‚ Find out what he wrote here πŸ™‚

Do you love graphic novels as well? πŸ˜›

If stranded on a desert island

and I can only bring one music album?

– I’ll probably bring a New Wave greatest hits collection

What is it about this music that never gets old for you?

– I grew up appreciating New Wave sounds because of my Dad. Up to this day even if I enjoy music by younger bands, there are still days when I’m more than happy to be listening to the Cure or OMD.

Summer

Experts say that our summer will have rains because of La NiΓ±a. Though I hate humid afternoons and warm nights, feeling the signs of summer approaching is priceless.

As we get excited about Christmas because of chilly nights, I just felt the coming summer with the blow of the wind this afternoon. While Karen and Aiam are busy buying green mangoes, there I was reminiscing my childhood days when summer meant no school, countless hours of playing and watching TV as well as swimming excursions.

I hope this summer will be memorable. And I also hope that JP and I will have the chance to travel πŸ™‚

Oh summer! Please be good and memorable! πŸ˜€

Pablo Neruda

Back in college, we had a class on selected readings for the Social Sciences. I’ve always enjoyed that class not only because our professor is good (Professor Karganilla) but also because I get to do my favorite hobby – reading πŸ™‚

One of our assignments back then is to read an autobiography. Eager with such assignment, I remember visiting National Bookstore and Powerbooks right after class. After almost an hour of searching for a good one, I finally made a choice. I bought Pablo Neruda’s autobiography. The book has history, politics, romance, travel and culture. What more could I ask for? πŸ™‚

It was definitely a good read. I also enjoyed reading Neruda’s poems while learning about his life so I like to share with you a personal favorite.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines by Pablo Neruda

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.

Write, for example,’The night is shattered
and the blue stars shiver in the distance.’

The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.

Through nights like this one I held her in my arms
I kissed her again and again under the endless sky.

She loved me sometimes, and I loved her too.
How could one not have loved her great still eyes.

Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.

To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.

What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is shattered and she is not with me.

This is all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her.

My sight searches for her as though to go to her.
My heart looks for her, and she is not with me.

The same night whitening the same trees.
We, of that time, are no longer the same.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but how I loved her.
My voice tried to find the wind to touch her hearing.

Another’s. She will be another’s. Like my kisses before.
Her voide. Her bright body. Her inifinite eyes.

I no longer love her, that’s certain, but maybe I love her.
Love is so short, forgetting is so long.

Because through nights like this one I held her in my arms
my sould is not satisfied that it has lost her.

Though this be the last pain that she makes me suffer
and these the last verses that I write for her.

Congratulations by Blue October

I love finding new songs to enjoy. One day after asking from Kuya Darwin Stephenie Meyer’s playlist (the list of songs she listened to while writing the whole saga), I instantly liked Blue October’s Congratulations.

Below is the lyrics of the song. Hope you find the time to listen to it (download now or visit grooveshark.

Is that seat taken
Congratulations
Would you like to take a walk with me

My mind it kind of goes fast
I try to slow it down for you
I think i’d love to take a drive
I want to give you something
I’ve been wanting to give to you for years
My heart

My heart, my pain won’t cover up
You left me.. hu hu hu hu
My heart won’t take this cover up
You left me.. hu hu hu hu

I came to see the light in my best friend
You seemed as happy as you’d ever been
My chance of being open was broken
And now you’re Mrs. him.

My words they don’t come out right
But I’ll try to say i’m happy for you
I think I’m going to take that drive
I want to give you something
I have wanted to give to you for years
My hearts

My heart, my pain won’t cover up
You left me.. hu hu hu hu
My heart
My heart won’t take this cover up
You left me.. hu hu hu hu

And I can’t change this
I can never take it back
But now I can’t change your mind
(You left me)
And I can’t this
I can never take this back
But now I can’t change your mind
can’t change your mind
(You left me)
Can’t change you mind
(You left me)
(You left me)
(You left me)
(You left me)

Go away
Make it go away
Please.
