Karen

Since I’ve been talking to her A LOT lately, I think it’s more than fitting to write about Karen Bianca Menchie Bella Chabelita Valeza. Maybe I’ll do a series of FRIENDS post – inspired by Tish‘s post a few weeks back.

Anyway, going back to Karen – we weren’t really that close when I started out as an Editorial Assistant. She has her own world in her corner – if she’s not busy writing her articles or working on a project – you can trust me when I tell you that she’s either watching Kpop videos or browsing through Soompi Forums πŸ˜›

But I guess we’re really meant to be friends OR in Karen’s choice of words: I guess I was REALLY very fortunate to have her as one of my closest friends (she will love this, I’m sure of it πŸ˜› ). I have to thank our dark C days – partly because if it weren’t for unreasonable demands and people – I guess we will not have the chance to develop our friendship πŸ™‚

Though she’s bad at remembering birthdays – Karen is truly a friend you can count on. She also easily says yes to urgent divine intervention meet-ups.

So Karen Carebear, thank you for teaching me how to appreciate Kpop and K-drama. Thank you for keeping me updated with the latest happenings in Philippine showbiz πŸ˜› Thank you for being a true Ashrald fan. Thank you for your words of wisdom, advice, and opinion. Most of all, thank you for being a true friend and for your “sup girl!” message on Gchat that completes my day (insert CHOS here πŸ˜› )

Tracy|Tish|Tracey|Tishi Fishi

When Tracy arrived at Hinge Inquirer Publications, we weren’t instant friends – for a good number of reasons:

1. She calls the pest “Ate”

2. Her work station is far from mine

3. We just didn’t jive at first

If I remember it right, I even find her nickname funny – “Tish” (she’s not aware of this, ILY, TRACEY πŸ˜› )

Then one day we just talked (actually she just comforted a silly me) and became friends.

Tracy is crazy, weird, and funny. We share secrets – she knows the skeletons in my closet and I know hers too. I do believe that she’s the kind of friend who wouldn’t stab my back, rant about me with other people or say mean things about me – like what some “friends” do.

I can trust her with everything and I’m sure she won’t judge me. Tracy will definitely hit my head if she thinks I’m up to no good.

Even if she works for a different company now and we seldom see each other – I know that I can just chat her or text her if I need some enlightenment – even if she’s busy fangirling and daydreaming about her soon-to-be husband, LSG.

O ayan, tapos na! I love you, Tracy! Thanks for the genuine friendship! πŸ™‚

Long overdue meet up at SM MOA

A new book from Karen for my birthday

If I will make a list of people who call me frequently, Karen will definitely be on top of that list. It feels great to be called her friend because she is the type of person who is full of happiness and positivity (she will like this bit, I bet!). She never gets stressed and when you see her she is always energetic and giddy (especially when she’s talking about Kpop and K-dramas / except when she’s glued to the internet). For my birthday, Karen gave me a copy of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

Whenever a friend gives me a book, I always ask them to craft a simple note to go with it. Here’s Karen’s note:

Of course this post wouldn’t be complete without Karen’s picture πŸ™‚

Spending time with friends

One thing I learned is that you have to give ample time to meet your friends. Being in HIP gave me the opportunity to meet two amazing ladies: Karen and Quel. They are true, frank, absolutely funny and I’m thankful to have been their friend. Well I hope they consider me as their friend. Hahahaha! πŸ˜›

Thanks to JP for taking the photos! β™₯

Headband Girls (in an instax)

After a shoot for our one of our Freezine titles, funny biatch (and HIP’s fashion stylist) RJ, encouraged us to try some of the headbands they featured. Β The Custom Girls (LL, Aiam, Mara and yours truly) gamely posed for this cute picture πŸ™‚

The girls

I always consider entering college as one great step for me. I remember the hours when I was so nervous on the way to Philam Life Building to attend my freshman orientation. Back then, being able to study at UP is like entering a whole new world – full of adventures, learning and a whole lot of “awakening”.

I was a shy 17-year old, trying to make friends with “kiddos” my age from different highschools. It was a tough beginning but after meeting my Area Studies blockmates – I felt that this group will be with me to share the highs and lows of UP life.

My first close friend was Em. She came from Miriam Highschool. Em was definitely a head-turner with countless boys wanting to meet her and get her number. Unfortunately for the boys, she’s not planning to enter any romantic relationship during that time because she was focused on getting the required average she needs to be able to transfer to UP Diliman to take up Interior Design.

Aileen also transferred to UP Diliman and studied Special Education. She often bumps into my mom every now and then as they are both teachers at Xavier School. We fondly call her “Simang” because of her trademark simangot face. Malakas ang boses pag nagrerecite noon at ang ganda ng sulat. Laging all caps πŸ™‚

Crese is the toughie. She’s the one I always clash with – maybe because of her strong personality and my being a pushover :P. She’s busy with her UP Law studies and probably eating πŸ˜› (kidding). One thing memorable about Crese is her courage to speak what’s on her mind – even to strangers and professors!

Chi is the most adventurous and the one who’s always late. I thought we will never get the chance to spend time with her but thanks to YM we were able to contact her again. Chi is juggling work and MA Studies at the same time.

Chammy aka Kat aka Amafel is the closest to me (we weren’t before but we discovered common interests and took it from there). I can tell Chammy almost everything and she never fails to come up with philosophical explanations and advice. I will never forget the lotus sitting position she demonstrated during our History 3 class as well as her thick glasses πŸ˜›Β  Chammy is into Market Research.

These girls made my college life more bearable and fun. They kept me sane when College Algebra drove me nuts and game me puffy eyes πŸ˜›

I can’t wait to spend time with them this coming January 15 πŸ™‚

Reconnect

Finally after one year, I get to spend some time with my dear friend Chammy! Talking non-stop over Mocha Frap and Iced Green Tea – stories went from work to updates about college blockmates!

A brief backgrounder on Chammy – she kept me sane back in college, has the best punchlines, reliable when it comes to discount coupons and hand sanitizers, most importantly, she’s part of my conscience! (seriously!)

Here she is:

Enjoying free drinks at Starbucks, Greenbelt πŸ™‚

It was so much fun catching up. Before going home, Chammy wanted to grab some yogurt so off we went to Red Mango at Greenbelt 3.

My first red mango froyo. Toppings: Hershey's choco chips, Blueberry and Fruit Cereals. Yum!

All Smiles! πŸ˜€

On another note and another re-connection, Mom celebrated her 46th birthday last April 17. It was fun, relatives arrived and we shared delicious home-cooked pancit (courtesy of Ate Azon’s cooking), Mom’s best-seller leche flan and macaroni salad as well as refreshing Halo-Halo. I included her birthday in this post because Carl (my bro) and I visited Mama Nor πŸ™‚ One of Dad’s aunties, we seldom visit her because of our busy schedules. If not for reunions and gatherings, we wouldn’t be spending time with her (thanks to telephone anyway :P)

Here are some pics with Mama Nor:

Bagong Gising Ako! πŸ˜›

So happy! Before the day ended, Jeyp brought a box of Brooklyn Pizza at home πŸ™‚ I’m touched – knowing that he’s busy transferring to QC, he still made time for Mom’s birthday πŸ˜€

Blessed and Happy!
